I was reading a passage in Hebrews last night and in chapter 12 it talks about how terribly wonderful the God is that we worship. In Hebrews 12:19 it talks about a voice that they heard from heaven that was so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking! This took place during Israel’s time in the dessert at the foot of Mount Sinai. It goes on to say that even if an animal touched the mountain it would die.

So why, when I worship do I not view God in that way? The scriptures also say earlier in Hebrews 4:16 that because of what Jesus did for us that we can boldly go before the throne of grace. We must remember who and what we are worshiping, not only in church on Sunday morning but also with our lives during the week!

I’m thankful for a scary God who let’s us call Him Father.

Worshiping worship

I’ve come to the realization that in some instances I find myself appreciating the music more than I should. What I mean is that we are to only, as worshipers, make much of Christ and what He did for us in fulfilling the law by laying down His life. Things don’t always look very clear when we are experiencing it in the moment. It is only after looking back on a trail of collateral damage revealed to us by the Holy Spirit after the experience. This is why the Bible tells us to walk in the spirit and not in our own understanding which is misleading more often than not.

After receiving this word after reading my Bible and praying the Spirit brought to my attention times when I was caught up in the style/sound of the worship and the furthest thing from my mind was God in His infinite grace over my sinful life.
